Poland is commemorating the second anniversary of the plane crash in Smoleńsk, Russia. Tu-154 airplane crash took place on 10 April 2010 near a fog-bound military airport. Ninety-six people died in the catastrophe - President Lech Kaczyński along with his wife, Maria Kaczyńska, former president of the Polish Republic, Ryszard Kaczorowski, important government officials and fifteen members of the Polish parliament, military officers, members of the Polish clergy and relatives of victims of the Katyń massacre, among others. Members of the Government Protection Bureau and the plane crew - the pilots and stewardesses also died on board. The delagation had been flying to Smoleńsk to attend the 70th anniversary of the Katyń massacre. The causes of the tragic event have become the subject of much controversy in Poland.
