Today I have prepared a Joan Osborne's song - 'If God was one of us' (pl. Gdyby Bóg był jednym z nas). The song is perfect if you find it difficult to understand the second conditional (drugi okres warunkowy). The second conditional, as you surely remember, is used to talk about unreal things and events that are not likely to happen, e.g. winning a lottery, being somebody different, meeting the queen of the UK during your stay in London, etc.
The pattern is quite easy to remember :
if + past simple + would + infinitive
części zdania możemy oszczywiście odwrócić :
would + infinitive + if + past simple
for example:
If I won a lottery, I would buy a new house.
I would be very happy if I met Queen Elizabeth in London.
You can read more about conditional sentences HERE
The song focuses on (=koncentruje się na) a quite unreal situation - meeting God (spotkanie Boga) and having the opportunity to ask him a question (stanie przed możliwością zadania mu pytania).
Listen to the song and try to complete the gaps! Remember that most of the sentences have been written using the second conditional!

If God …………… a name, what ……………
it be
And …………… you call it to his face
If you …………… faced with him in all his glory
What …………… you ask if you …………… just one question
And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
What if God …………… one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a …………… on the bus
Trying to make his way home
If God …………… a face what …………… it look like
And …………… you …………… to see
If seeing meant that you …………… …………… believe
In things like heaven and in Jesus and the saints and all the prophets
And yeah yeah god is great yeah yeah god is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
What if God …………… one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a …………… on the bus
Trying to make his way home
He's trying to make his way home
Back up to heaven all alone
Nobody …………… on the phone
Except for the Pope maybe in Rome
And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
What if God …………… one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a …………… on the bus
Trying to make his way home
